SSDP and teaching units

As a work-around to a quirky problem, we will enter the DNP courses as 0 credit. The reason is that teaching in the DNP does not count towards our teaching load. In the TAT, I thought we could simply enter the courses as 0 units, so they would show up in the schedule, and in the instructor’s assignments, but not count towards the instructor’s target units. Hopefully 0 unit classes that won’t mess anything with system. As background, the lack of teaching credits is true of all self-supporting programs at UCLA, whereby the instructors must be paid directly from the funds from the program, and state funds cannot be used.

Potentially in the future, I was thinking how to do this, and the simplest would be a flag in the program table, something like

SSDP Boolean default false

SSDP = self-supporting degree program

This could be manually entered, since programs are established as SSDP or not and would not change – the program table does not need a ui since it changes so little. In any case, courses in the DNP program would then not could towards instructor teaching units. I’m not sure how often that calculation is made, so not sure about coding required.
