Student Affairs Committee Prerequiste Course Ballot 2
Ballot #2 Proposal: MECN program prerequisite courses to include Nutrition as a separate prerequisite course available at local community colleges within 3-5 years of admission.
Rationale: Completing this course at a college level fulfills the BRN requirements for licensure, provides more instruction than we currently provide, and allows students to focus more on Y1 courses by lessening the overall credit hour requirements for Y1. This course is required by many other nursing programs, thus the majority of students (based on records) already complete this course as part of prerequisite requirements for application to multiple nursing programs. Based on a survey of MECN students in 2019/2020, requiring this course as a prerequisite would not affect the decision to apply to UCLA School of Nursing.
