About the SON Confluence site (visible to all)

About

The UCLA SON Confluence site is a collection of websites, termed “spaces” in Confluence jargon. These spaces contain information relevant to members of the SON community. Some spaces are restricted access, whereas others (like this one) are visible to all.

Users - who can see and edit

There are “Users” who registered on the Confluence – anyone can be invited to be a user (ask Paul), but people are not users by default. This is to control the number of users, since we pay by user count. We don’t want everyone who just views a website to count as a user.

Users can be given permissions to edit Confluence spaces, and to view non-public spaces.

Non users (everyone) can view public spaces, such as where the faculty handbook, bruin briefs etc. are. In that sense, everyone has access to viewing many of the spaces.

If a “space” (website in Confluence) is set to public, everyone can see it.

If a space is private, only Users with permissions can see or edit it.

Groups

There are groups of users in Confluence groups of users. Some spaces have permissions assinged to groups, such as Academic Programs.
