Preliminary Assessment
Preliminary Assessment
A “preliminary assessment” is issue when a candidate may fail to get tenure, typically after a negative CAP letter.
The candidate can respond to the review (CAP and optionally CAPA/EVF and dean’s letters). They may send their response with updated materials to CAPA for review by the faculty, or to the VC or academic personnel. In both cases, CAPA and the EVF should deliberate on the case, considering the CAP letter, and issue a response. The response may be as simple as “We stand by our original assessment.”
If the candidate sent CAPA the response and new materials, those may be considered by CAPA; otherwise, if the candidate sent their materials to the VC, CAPA only considers the original dossier and long with the CAP letter.
