SRP 99 and 199: Student undergraduate reserch volunteers

UCLA provides UCLA provides Student Research Projects (SRP 99 and SRP 199) that allow credit for research activities. A contract is signed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. The contract will assume a regular 1/week commitment for a quarter, with a designated time on one day of the week.

How to proceed?

Talk with PI,* agree of project topic and hours/week, then get a pdf contract from UCLA. With reference to the steps in the snapshot (bottom of page), here are the steps.

  • PI = principal investigator, the professor

  1. Get the correct contract (SPR99 or SRP199)

    • Rename the pdf in this format: “23F SRP-199 Contract - Paul Macey.pdf”

      • Name: year quarter, type of contract (SRP-99 or SRP-199), and your name at the end

  2. Agree on units (2-4); 2 units would be at least 4 hours/week, 4 units would be at least 8 hours/week.

  3. Write a draft project description. Do this in Docs (Word if you prefer) so it can be edited easily. Share with edit permissions so PI can make changes, with Suggestions on. Once PI agrees, add it to the contract.

  4. Email to PI; they signs it

  5. PI asks a department to representative sign. In Nursing, this is usually the Associate Dean for Research

  6. PI emails back to you, and you pass it on as indicated.

    • The Nursing contact is, as of October 2023:
