Instructors may be assigned a teaching load for the academic year.

Rationale: Teaching loads are determined year-by-year.

A teaching load must be entered in order to give an instructor a teaching assignment.

Rationale: past instructors or those on leave should not be available to assign classes to; it also reduces the length of choices when selecting instructors

A teaching load can have target units = 0

Rationale: teaching loads change or may be unknown. The target units is only used to display instructors below target teaching units; it does nto constrain teaching assignments. For example, an instructor could have a target load of 12 units and be assigned 16 units.
